DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS

From Santa Fe, NM take I 25 N (pass the Pecos-Glorieta Pass - exit #299) to the Rowe exit 307 (1/2 hour from Las Campanas). Bear R on the exit. Turn L on Rt. 34 (San Ysidro – the old Santa Fe Trail). Go through the underpass (single lane) and go straight. Stay on the paved road 1.7 miles from the underpass. Turn L at the dirt road going uphill. There will be a gate. You will need a gate code to enter. This is a 50 minute drive from Las Campanas.
This is a scenic drive from the underpass to Perea Ranch. You may want to bring your camera. Open the gate (keep the door open by securing the rope onto the post on the left), drive through then go back and reclose the gate. It is a 10 minute drive to the river on a difficult dirt and stone road. Unless you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, it is strongly suggested that you park in the area by the gate and walk to the river following the fencing. It is about a 15-20 minute walk.
THE PRIVATE WATERS OF PEREA RANCH: It is strongly recommended that if this is your first time at the Perea Ranch that you call The Reel Life for a guide. The Perea Ranch has approximately 3 miles of private water for rainbow and browns. For a truly successful experience on your river trip go to The Reel Life Web site www.reellifesantafe.com for the daily update.
As soon as you pass the gate, it is recommended that you put your vehicle into 4-wheel drive. The photos in this section depict the road down to the river. Above IS the road!
When down at the river and a storm approaches, it is advised that you get back up to the gate ASAP. You could be stranded and this difficult drive could be treacherous.
This photo indicates that the road is even more difficult in spots. Please stay on the ‘main road’ as the side roads could present a problem for you. Flashing (orange & blue tape) has been placed on trees marking the main road. Keep in mind that your vehicle could get scratched.
There is a large shelter with picnic tables and a charcoal grill aside the river bank.
Once on the river, you are in store for an exceptional New Mexico fishing experience. Be sure to bring your chest waders as the pools can be deep. Los Pescadores Fly Fishing Club and The Reel Life stocked these waters at The Perea Ranch with 400 pounds of rainbow trout on April 9th. Jeff Croy reported that this was a laborious venture as they rafted back and forth only putting a few fish at a time in order to keep the mortality rate to a minimum. Thank you Jeff , Toner and your crew.
The parking area is ample and flat.
