Los Pescadores Celebrates With Las Campanas Compadres at an August BBQ at Bishop's Lodge

Many thanks to founders of Las Campanas Compadres (LCC), Lawrence and Suzanna Becerra, founders of Los Pescadores Fly Fishing Club (LPFFC), Ken and Pam Dettelbach, and members Bob Lehrer and Pam Baldassaro for working on the joint organizational social giving the opportunity for members of both organizations to get to know each other. The Good O’L Fashioned Cowboy BBQ was held on the high mesa at Bishop’s Lodge in Santa Fe, New Mexico on August 28, 2009. New Mexico’s renounced country music  singer, Bill Hearne entertained us as we chowed up on giant burgers and hotdogs with unbelievable trimmings. Cowboy hats and bandanas were passed out to the buckaroos. This was an awesome event. Thanks also go to Rich Veronni of Bishop’s Lodge and his staff for the success of this event.

Volunteers from both organizations have been working together on the development of a fishing program for special needs students. LPFFC and LCC want to thank the people and businesses that so graciously made this possible. It took a team to make this work.

Bishop’s Lodge volunteered the use of its fish pond, volunteers from both organizations cleaned out the pond, Rita and Roger Coffman, Sr. of Mr. Fish in England, AK worked with us and the NM Department of Game and Fish so that we could stock the pond  and generously donated the bluegill as well as the transportation of these fish. Jason Rector, Member / Project Manager of Wildcat Environmental Services, donated his company’s time for the final destination of transporting  and the physical stocking as well as guidance on maintaining the pond. Since the completion of the pond, LCC and LPFFC have successfully held two fishing sessions for the students. Volunteers from both organizations have worked with the students giving them a rewarding experience; actually it was a rewarding experience for all. We look forward to the growth and success of this program and are diligently working on plans for 2010.
